Innovative public space concept
Public spaces are vital components of urban environments, serving as communal areas where people can gather, relax, interact and even enjoy their food together. In May 2023, Yoka Build was given the chance to work on the architectural and landscape design of Astra Pod Cikupa, a public space area that is located in Tangerang. Aside from having a multipurpose space, the area has a unique setting made of modular shipping containers, providing a fun and interactive outdoor experience for visitors.
The 1092 square meters area has a design concept of combining sustainability and flexibility by using reusable container modules, the most stand out material for the project, as retail pods. Each pod can be customized to fit its own unique needs, with the option to add a semi-outdoor seating area which comes in two different sizes.
Making the circulation of the space effective yet interesting and positioning the entrance so the space won’t be too crowded were the challenges upon designing the area. Along with that, the design not only reduces waste by reusing shipping containers, it also allows easy rearrangement and customization of the pods without disrupting the overall layout, making it an attractive and functional solution for public spaces.
